Gurashvili Kisi

€31.95

This is not a wine for the timid. Bold, intense and unapologetically expressive — Gurashvili's Kisi is a force of nature in a bottle. Made by father and son winemakers Zura and Zviad Gurashvili, a family whose winemaking knowledge spans generations, this is an amber wine that drinks like a light red — velvety, spiced and deeply satisfying. Crafted from organically grown Kisi grapes in the celebrated Sighnaghi district of Kakheti, aged for up to seven months on skins in traditional Qvevri, this is Georgian amber winemaking at its most intense, honest and alive.

Grape Variety 100% Kisi — a rare and almost extinct indigenous Georgian grape from the Kakheti region, saved from disappearance by a handful of dedicated small growers during Georgia's Soviet era and now experiencing a well-deserved renaissance. Grown organically at 400–500 metres elevation on rich black volcanic soil, adjacent to forest, in the family's own vineyards in the Sighnaghi district.

Taste Profile Deep, glowing amber in the glass. The nose is rich and complex — dried apricot, ripe peach and warm spice. On the palate the wine is velvety and full-bodied, with a round, generous texture, beautifully balanced acidity and a long, spiced finish with real tannic grip. An amber wine with the soul of a red. Intense, layered and completely unforgettable.

Craftsmanship Hand harvested in September and crushed directly into Qvevri — traditional Georgian clay vessels buried underground — using native yeasts and time-honoured Kakhetian skin-contact techniques. Fermentation takes one to two weeks, after which the wine rests on skins in Qvevri for five to seven months, developing its signature deep amber colour, rich phenolic texture and expressive complexity. Bottled unfiltered with minimal natural sulphur (38mg/L) — as natural as it gets.

Serving Suggestions Versatile and food-friendly. Enjoy alone or pair with fruit and cheese, white meats, spiced poultry and rich vegetable dishes. Best served at 10–12°C. Alcohol: 13% — 750ml.
