Menabde Chkhaveri
Rare, unfiltered and made with nothing but time, tradition and trust in the Qvevri — this is Georgian winemaking at its most elemental. Chkhaveri is one of Georgia's most ancient and unique grape varieties, grown along the lush Black Sea coast of Guria, and this 2020 expression from Menabde Winery is a wine of extraordinary character. Light in body but deep in soul, it challenges everything you think you know about red wine — and rewards you handsomely for the open mind you bring to it.
Grape Variety 100% Chkhaveri — an ancient and rare indigenous Georgian grape from the Gurian coast along the Black Sea, one of Georgia's most distinctive and least-known varieties outside the country. Celebrated for its delicate colour, complex aromatics and naturally elegant structure.
Taste Profile Light and luminous in the glass, with a captivating nose of wood smoke, red currant and ripe cornelian cherry — a wild, aromatic combination unlike any other red wine in the world. On the palate the wine is elegant and unfiltered, with a natural depth and texture that speaks directly to its Qvevri origins. Raw, honest and utterly unforgettable.
Craftsmanship Handpicked from the vineyards of Kvemo Erketi in Georgia's Guria region, this 2020 vintage is crafted using the traditional Kakhetian Qvevri technique — one of the world's oldest winemaking methods. The pressed grapes ferment together with their stems, seeds and skins in a large clay vessel buried entirely underground. During two weeks of fermentation the wine is stirred manually three times a day, then aged for a further ten months in the Qvevri. Bottled completely unfiltered — exactly as nature intended.
Serving Suggestions Best served and stored at 11–13°C. Avoid direct sunlight. A natural companion to smoked meats, charcuterie, earthy mushroom dishes and soft cheeses. Alcohol: 13.5% — 750ml.
